A slow start to my stitching year

I don't know about you lovely people, but social commitment wise, 2012 has got off to a roaring start for me. As nice as this is, it's left me with a pitiful amount of time to stitch and all I keep thinking is: thank goodness I didn't sign up to The Sew Weekly! Hats off to every single contributor...I have no idea how they do it!

Ridiculously, I've got a handful of sewing projects on the go, all at various stages of completion. I need to focus more!

Jasmine – muslin cut out and ready to sew

Minoru – far, far behind Tasia's sew-along

In knitting news, last week I started a follow up course to the beginner’s one I took last October. Ironically, we addressed gauge and tension issues in the first lesson and I appeared immensely knowledgeable after all your brilliant answers to this post. Thank you all!

I can now also reveal that one of my three (I seem to like doing things in threes) current knitting projects, is the oh-so-cute Adeline cardigan – a Ravelry freebie.

I'm knitting it up in Patons Dew, because I was attracted to the wonderful colours of the Ocean colourway. It's so fresh and reminds me of crashing waves. Adeline will definitely hugely challenge my current skills, so it will take me forever to finish, but I'm in no real hurry. Some things are worth taking your time over!

Is anyone else finding January stupidly busy, or are you all getting plenty of stitching time in?

P.S. Don't forget to enter my giveaway if you haven't already done so – it closes on Friday!

  1. Hi Marie, I know exactly what you mean about January! It is super busy for me too. I'll really enjoy following your progress on such a cute knit - It's going to be all done ready for the spring - good thinking!!

  2. I'm also definitely feeling slightly inundated at the moment... But I'm very excited to report that I'm well on my way with the Minoru! Adorable little cardi - especially loving that sweet (but not too novelty, if you know what I mean!) collar and cap sleeves.

  3. I have no hours at the shop so I am so so not busy and I wish I was.

I am so impressed at your knitting progress. I am still too scared to go beyond a simple scarf!

    1. Don't be impressed, it's early days with the cardi yet ;o) Seriously though, I reckon you can give something similar a go, especially if you choose a pattern that's made up flat and sewn together as a starter?

  4. My 2012 started the same way - social commitments leave very little time for sewing lately. I could probably pop out something quick'n'dirty, but I'm determined to finish my coat before I start any new projects. And then I have to make good on Landon's Christmas present and make him 2 shirts (the muslin is made, but I haven't even started to fit it yet! Aiee!). Sigh. I'm not complaining too bad, though - I love doing stuff with my friends, and I'm enjoying what little sewing time I do have, so it all works out eventually :)

  5. Seriously, exactly what I have been feeling lately. I am also very much behind on the Minoru sew along, I don't know what happened to me. I need to get it together. At least you have plans though.

  6. I'm also far behind on my Minoru. I can't keep up with a post a day that Tasia is doing.

    1. Yep, initially Tasia's daily posts were stressing me out about being so far behind. But I've decided to accept that I probably won't be sewing along, but that I can at least sew it up in my own time soon!

  7. January is always crazy! I can't wait to see your Minoru - I am seriously contemplating one for our Aussie winter - would be a perfect weight. I'm refashioning one of my maternity dresses into a maxi skirt at the mo - taking it pretty slow!

  10. I'm woefully behind in my Minoru as well Marie and it'll be ages before I get a chance to move on with it so don't worry - we'll be tardy together!
