The Great British Sewing Bee - kicking off tonight!

**Important update: I don't know how 'legal' this is, but a clever reader has discovered
that you can watch the first episode on YouTube here. Enjoy!!!**

UK sewing bloggers, are you as ridiculously excited as me about the first episode of The Great British Sewing Bee, airing at 8pm tonight on BBC Two? I'm literally waiting in front of the TV rather impatiently and my excitement is twofold - not only is our awesome hobby finally getting some well-deserved airtime, but one of the UK's most talented and inspiring sewing bloggers is a contestant! I speak of none other than Tilly of Tilly and the Buttons of course and I'm sure she'll do an excellent job at representing our fabulous online community! I can't wait to see what she produces under immense pressure and I'm sure you'll all be joining me in cheering her on!

Doesn't Tilly literally look as cute as a button in her profile?

Anyway, if you're on Twitter and you want to join the conversation, you can follow @sewingbee and use #GBSB.

  1. So exciting! On the Episode Guide on the BBC website, it says "This episode will be available soon" -- so I'm hopeful it will be stream-able!

    2. I did enjoy it, very watchable... 'cept the "here's an easy to make laundry bag" bit - they implied anyone could make it and this is all you have to do - and then IMHO left out 80% of the info. - like size of fabric, length to make your straps, what seam allowance to use saying "hem the ends" means nothing to a total & absolute beginner as they'll never of heard of hemming before LOL! (***EDIT: I found a "proper" set of instructions for the bag here: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-04-02/the-great-british-sewing-bee-make-a-laundry-bag I don;t recall them mentioning in the TV program when it aired last night where to find these though LOL).***)

    3. I totally agree that the laundry bag tutorial was rubbish...if I didn't know the first thing about sewing (which many viewers won't) I still wouldn't know where to begin! It's good that the full tutorial is online, but I definitely don't remember them mentioning that on the programme. Also, there quick tutorials (under clips when you click the BBC link in my post) are questionable...I know they are only a few minutes long, but they should have made them a tad longer and explained things better. And maybe given better examples of projects! Hmmm, I hope I'm not being too harsh as I did enjoy the majority of it! ;o)

  10. THE SHOW WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tilly and Laura were fabulous of course, and I just loved Sandra!
    BUT THE PRESSURE??!!
A fitted dress in 6 hours for someone you've never met before?! Eeek, you'd have to be made of pretty stern stuff for that challenge.
I'm exclaiming all over the place here, but this episode was so enjoyable!
