Fugly as sin PJ bottoms!

When Karen announced her Pyjama Party Sewalong I selflessly thought, “Great, a chance to finally do something nice for the boyfriend"! You see, he really hates my saggy comfy PJ bottoms. In fact, they depress him so much that a curfew has been imposed and I'm not allowed to wear them before 9pm. Which may sound reasonable to you guys, but I could truly live in my PJ bottoms given half a chance.

Anyway, I thought I'd pick out a sexy, smooth fabric that he would find irresistible. But sometimes my taste in prints is questionable and I'm afraid this make turned out fugly as sin!!! My fabric choice – cotton viscose - is a buttery soft dream against my skin and my PJ bottoms look harmless and unassuming all folded up on my pillow...

...but coupled with a mismatched cardigan, it's astonishing how much I resemble The Dude (Jeff Bridges) in The Big Lebowski!
Seriously, which one's which?!?

But surely the boyfriend can't hate these babies as much my other pair can he?!? I only wish you could have seen his face during my big reveal. He was speechless for a while before asking me if I was going to combat or planning a trip to the jungle. I explained my intentions which he patiently listened to and simply asked, “What sane person wastes their time on fabric that looks like tie-dyed sick?”. I'm wondering exactly the same thing myself...they are truly hideous! Karen, is it possible to enter your Ugly Amnesty a second time - I think these PJ bottoms totally meet the criteria, don't you?

Luckily, Simplicity 2116, coupled with Karen's expert sew along, was a ridiculously easy project, so I'm determined to make amends sometime soon. For now, here's a couple more photos for you to enjoy, as this will be the last time you see these PJ bottoms on this here blog...EVER!

Settle down tiger and read a book (I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith if you're interested)

To see much nicer PJ's, make sure you check out Karen's blog post and the comments left on it!

  1. Hi Marie, these photos are so funny and I also have problems with Hrh regarding my taste of Pj's... He hates my new pair. I love it so Im just going to say " Im going to bed with or without you" LoL

Yours aren't that bad... and viscose is a lovely fabric, so I'm sure you will make use of this somehow....

  2. Oh dear, gotta love those blunt comments from your partner, eh? My husband is just the same, and sadly he's usually right. Yours do look really comfy, if that's any consolation :)

  5. Marie you (& your boyfriend's comments) have made me laugh! Fancy being compared to the Dude (but you have something there with that cardiagn). They look comfy & well fitting though - no saggy bottom so I reckon they are a hit, carry on wearing them!! Isn't it funny though, the difference in what fabric with a small pattern looks like up close & then from a distance?

  11. Marie, I am deeply, deeply honoured that The Dude has joined in the The Pyjama Party. In fact, I've had to put The Big Lebowski on the DVD player this aternoon, thanks to your inspiration. 'Do I look like I'm married? The toilet seat's up, man!' Your boyfriend is definitely the king of satire. I Capture The Castle - save it for the special moments, because that is a beautiful BEAUTIFUL book. I am writing this comment with my feet in the kitchen sink...

I thought it'd be rude not to bring The Dude along too ;o) Hope you enjoyed watching it again and thanks again for hosting such a brilliantly fun sewalong!

  12. haha oh dear, your boyfriends comments crack me up! I don't think they look quite so bad with just the plain black t-shirt though.... But like Scruffy Badger says - so saggy bottom, so what more can he complain about! ;D

  16. Such funny pictures. Isn't it weird how the print looks completely different when folded up small? Anyway as long as they're comfy that's what matters!

  17. They don't look that bad..... Maybe they would impreove with a creamy/ivory coloured top? I'm reading I Capture the Castle for the second time - its fab!

  18. I Capture the Castle is one of my all time favourite novels.

Shame your pjs didnt turn out as you expected, or hoped! I can't imagine I'd want to keep or wear anyone once it had Dude-associations! From a distance, they don't look too bad at all, but I guess that's no good to you! x

  19. Oh no! if they are really comfy though you should try and get them some sort of reprieve.. would cotton viscose dye ok? If you dyed them a nice dark red/pink or something it might look less like sick!

  20. Hey, I'm sure there are some Big Lebowski conventions coming up soon.
Or, provided there's enough elastic, you could send them to Mr Bridges as he has confessed that the Dude's wardrobe was largely made up of his own items.

  21. Oh, boys... they're such haters! I asked hubs to take my PJ photos and he was like, "In THAT? You want people to see you like THAT? Don't take those outside or the neighbors will laugh at you forever!". Sigh...

I'm all about comfort with pajamas, so if they're cozy, maybe you can pull them out on a cold evening when you're home alone! Or maybe pass them along to a fashion-forward friend!

  22. HA! I love your PJ bottoms - sometimes our menfolk don't always know that the best response is to say nothing at all, but just give us a smile :) I especially like your Big Lebowski outfit - White Russian, anyone? Your photo shoot is so fun - loved looking at the photos!

  23. Hey now! There is nothing wrong with resembling the Dude! Or wearing a nice shade of "tie-dyed sick." I think their nice, and boyfriends ... will be boyfriends.

  27. Haha! This is a great post. Hey, it's the thought that counts, right? I commend you for starting out with the noble and selfless goal of making PJ bottoms your boyfriend would like. At least the PJs are comfortable. And I'm totally with you about wanting to wear pajama/sweat pants all day long at home. Actually, right now it's warm here, so I've moved to the other side of the closet where the stylish, shapeless, flowy nightdresses dwell. Those are always a fan favorite. ;)
