Simplicity 1461: muslin in progress

Firstly, I wanted to thank all of you who responded to my last post - you gave me some truly priceless advice and managed to fill me with confidence in my own ability. It was also really interesting to find out that many of us face the same challenges with regards to following our sewing dreams, but I'm sure that with lots of hard work and plenty of endurance, we can make them a reality!

I also thought I'd give you a sneak peek of what's next on my cutting table (and it's not a Sorbetto!!!):

Simplicity 1461 is an adorable 1940s nightware pattern, but I totally intend on using it for day wear...controversial eh!?! I'm making View 2 and I've cut out my bodice muslin, but I've yet to decide what fabric to use. I don't think I have anything suitable in my stash, so I hit the online stores for some inspiration.

I love this pure silk fabric, but I think it might be too light a colour for a maxi dress for my body type. It could work as a future blouse though, so I might have to get some anyway:

This cotton/silk blend is lovely and possibly more flattering for a maxi dress:

A cotton lawn like this one could work pretty well too:

What do you think would work well with this pattern?

Oh, the eagle eyed of you may have noticed that I cut my muslin out from my doomed Sinister Dress! After much deliberation, I admitted to myself that I was never going to try and make it wearable. RIP Sinister Dress, sorry for not giving you the chance you deserved...

  1. I like the darker two, particularly the last one.

  2. I love the 2nd one. Even tough it's dark, it's still soft and femenine.

  3. The first fabric is incredibly pretty, but a bit light for a maxi dress since there would be a lot of fabric in it. I think the third is my favorite, the green yellow flowers are very pretty.

  4. I really like the Croft Mill lawn! It's so pretty, plus navy blue is such a nice color for you (like your Swing Dress!). My two cents. :)

  5. I think the second one is the best :))

  8. Thanks for your help all, it seems that most of you chose the navy lawn, which is fine by me, as it's also the cheapest of the three ;o)
