Self-imposed challenge

I'm wholeheartedly enjoying following all the Me-Made-June posts out there, even though admittedly, there's a part of me that is sad not to be joining in. Fingers crossed though that I'll have enough me-made clothes for September eh!?! To counteract this sad feeling and to take me one step closer to joining taking part in the future, I mentally set myself a self-imposed challenge last week. It's only on a tiny scale, but it's been very motivating, so I thought that sharing it with you all will keep me going.

On 15 June I'm heading to Cyprus to visit my family and for the first time ever, I'd like to take some of my self-made clothes with me. Due to the limited time frame I settled on three me-made garments - secretly because three is my favourite number and of course 'the magic number'. The  first one was my Crescent Skirt which I managed to complete this weekend. So one down, two to go!!!

The two remaining garments that I'm working on are:

The gorgeous and generously free Sorbetto Top by Colette Patterns, in a sheer cotton voile that I picked up at the Goldhawk Road Fabric Fandago.

Vogue 7648 from the 1950s, which I think has such a summery vibe. I'm not sure about my fabric choice though! It could be a massive fail with the fluorescent pink and orange flowers, but at only   £3.99 p/m I haven't got a lot to lose...and it is incredibly soft!

So, what's on your cutting table?

  1. Nice to see your fandango voile plans. I made a muslin for my heidi dress from my crazy pink fabric and am now sewing the real thing from my dotty green cotton. It's taking ages because I'm trying to be careful and do it properly! I'm also finding everyone's me-made-June posts really inspirational - as I am yet to even wear something I've made out of the house :p

  2. I'm just about to cut out a Sorbetto myself! I have a sheer pink dotted Swiss type of thing. I'm trying to decide if I should line it or if I can get away with wearing really nude undergarments... I'm heading to Paris June 24th, so trying desperately to squeeze in time to fashion some cute summer clothes before the trip! Good luck with your remaining two pieces!

  3. Hi Ginger, a Sorbetto Top is just the ticket for a trip to Paris! I just finished mine today and although my voile is very sheer, it looks absolutely fine with a nude bra. If you do decide to line it, make sure it's with something very light so it doesn't interfere with the light, drapey nature of the top.

Justine, good to hear you're making progress! Nothing wrong with being careful, it probably means you'll end up with something really wearable and lovely!

  4. oooh i like this top, thanks for introducing me to it. I wanted a simple summery top idea, to go with the Beignet i'm planning to sew next month, and this could work well. I have a great flowery fabric that would work with this too. Good luck with your sewing plans.

  6. Ooooh i like the Sorbetto, may have to look at that for myself! I admire your self imposed deadlines, i think this is something i should do for myself too as i seem to muddle along with a number of UFOs on the go at any one time! I do like the fabric for the dress...i bought something similar for a summer dress myself yesterday (blog post coming up!) P.S - It's Kat but for some reason it won't let me post with my account!! x

  8. I totally printed that Sorbetto pattern for a future project. We totally have a lot of the same tastes. That cotton voile will be perfect for it.

  9. Wow, looks like the Sorbetto Top's a popular one! Law, it will look great tucked into a Beignet for sure!

Tilly - thank you! Whatever happens, I'd also like to make the dress in a darker fabric so it's more wearable in this country too ;o)

  10. I love that dress, it's incredible! I am currently doing the exact same thing, and am just waiting to finish off my lovely crescent skirt when I have the time (damn you, exams!). Then I'm on the hunt for some wide-legged pants...

Ps. Cyprus? I am so jealous

  12. I think that flowered fabric could look fabulous as long as it has a nice fluid drape to it.I really like that pattern a lot.
