Will Google Reader's closure affect your blog?

I'm sure that by now you've already heard the news that Google Reader is closing on 1 July. While this may be a pain in the arse for some of us, the good news is that your blog won't disappear and neither will your followers. However, the list of blogs you follow (and if it's like mine, it's probably hundreds) may well disappear. BUT, there's still plenty of time to switch to a new reader...yay!

If, like me, you use Blogger Dashboard the effects should be minimal. I've done some digging and it seems like you'll continue to received the feeds of all Blogger blogs you follow. However, if you follow Wordpress and other websites, their feeds may disappear from your Dashboard come 1 July.

To stay on the safe side, now is the time to maybe look into alternative ways of reading your favourite blogs. Here are just some of the options available:

As for my little ole blog, you still follow with Blogger Dashboard, find me on Bloglovin and Twitter, or you can 'Follow by email' using the box near the top right hand side of my sidebar.

In other news, I got my sewing machine back! Although I've yet to revisit the jersey dress that 'broke' it, it seems to be working very smoothly indeed. I've got to say that the customer service from the folks at Bamber Sewing Machine Centre is pretty top notch. When I unpacked my machine, this was included as proof that everything is working nicely. It's a clever idea and also really pretty...it's totally neat enough to frame!

The reason I've yet to revisit my jersey dress, is because I've been busy working on my Sew for Victory dress. Let's just say that I'm having some issues though...despite making a muslin to check my grading skills. But now my fashion fabric isn't behaving (serves me right for stash-busting polyester) and I'm feeling like the project could be doomed. I sincerely hope not, because if I can pull it off, it will be such a stunning dress to add to my wardrobe.

Have you had better luck than me with your sewing projects recently? What's on your sewing table at the moment?

  1. Fingers crossed you can pull this one together - it will be a stunner of a dress! Nothing but a million ideas on my table at the moment....J

  2. It's been good sewing lately. Just finished a grobag for lickle one and made some kick ass nice Wiksten Tanks (but maternity adjusted)

I am doing a bit of fun sewing before getting my teeth into something big. I'm thinking the Robson Trench coat to have a go at that bad boy. Obviously, this will be an on-going project and perfect for getting my arse into gear after I've had my baby and loose the weight in time to wear it for Autumn/ Winter next year!

Thats my plan. In the mean time, I'm gonna make me some fun baby shnizzle... BUZZ!

  5. I'm doing a rub off of a ready to wear dress. 2 muslins so far and it's going pretty well surprisingly. That pattern looks gorgeous particularly the white one - I hope your dress isn't doomed!

  6. I'm working on two versions of Patterns Runway's gathered sundress. Now all I need is some sun so I can wear it!
I hope you have a bit more success with your Sew for Victory dress. I'm looking forward to seeing that McCalls pattern made up :)

  7. I'm busily making a couple of knit tops so I really sympathize with your scary "is my machine broken?!" situation. I think I go through it once every jersey based fabric before I decide to just undo all my threading, tension, etc and sleep on it. Luckily, she's always come back the next morning!

    1. It's weird isn't it? I hate not knowing what's wrong, but I suspect that most machines just don't love jersey. Luckily yours seems to bounce back after a break ;o)

  8. Oh no! You can make it work yet! I'm sorry to hear your fabric is behaving badly. That's kind of how I felt with my lining fabric at first (like "you have GOT to be kidding me, why do people like sewing with this"). lol So I hope you can power through! And yay for your fixed machine, they even did a buttonhole, how cute of them. :)

  9. Good luck with that dress, I love the pattern and the fabric, how annoying that it messes with your machine!

  13. I'm going to look at this follow thing post April, cos the dust would have settled by then, and the alternatives would be clearer.

  16. Thanks so much for this info. :)
I don't use reader much, so it probably won't affect me drastically, and that's great to know.
